Another plea for help for a beautiful friendly stray, pregnant and having her babies outside in cold early morning temperatures. Shame on the person who abandoned this momma cat, shame on them for not getting her spayed, shame on them for not being responsible pet owners! Her first kitten born outside did not make it, she lost another one and five more who survived but are some of the tiniest kittens ever, as momma is still a kitten herself. Please stop giving free kittens away… kittens don’t stay kittens and interest in them is lost as they grow. We know there are exceptions, some take pet ownership seriously… and they do the right thing and spay and neuter their pets. We often see a person post of finding a kitten, and they decide to keep it and then they ask for someone else to spay or neuter it. Do the right thing by that kitten, either watch for a spay/neuter clinic or give it up! Do not let it roam outside if it’s not altered! This momma and her tiny babies are safe in our newest maternity ward… Laurie is officially full with 5 families and a sixth waiting for her due date. #spayandneuteristhesolution #responsiblepetownership #savingkittens ... This afternoon several rescues and shelters met with the Grant County Commissioners to address several things on our agenda. We believe that the commissioners are hearing your concerns via emails, letters and phone calls. We thank you all for that… it really does matter. Our first request was for financial help for an annual free immunization clinic that we have held for 2 years in a row. Last year 2 shelters and 3 rescues coordinated together to put the clinic on. The commissioners agreed that they wanted to help and asked us to submit the request this week. We are confident that we will get the funds and the 4H building to house the event for this June! This will once again be a free immunizarion clinic for rabies and for parvo combo shots. If we get the amount that we are requesting, we may also be able to afford free chipping as well.
The next big item on our agenda was the possibility with funding for us to get the Greater Good to come to Grant County and put on the The Big Fix… which is a spay neuter event that lasts 4 days and they spay and neuter 250 pets a day for a total of 1000 pets altered in those 4 days. The calendar for the Greater Good is full for 2025, so we will be requesting funds in the Aug/Sept budget meeting for a 2026 Big Fix. If we can get the funding, next will be to convince the Greater Good to put Grant County on their calendar for 2026.
The next meeting will be discussing ordinances/laws to limit the amount of pets allowed in the county, especially residential county neighborhoods, leash laws in the county to prevent your unaltered dog being loose in the county. We also want further clarification on abuse/neglect laws. We don’t know what all that looks like yet, but we wanted to update you that we are as rescues and shelters united in finding solutions to the crisis that we have in our county. We are hopeful that the commissioners, the sheriff and the prosecuting attorney are wanting this too!
Thank you all again for your persistence with phone calls, letters and emails to the commissioners expressing your concerns and thank you all for your support of the rescues and the shelters in Grant County. We really are working hard with what we have to be the voice for and save these innocent animals.
**Stay tuned on the dates for the immunization clinic.

Good job!!!

This is fantastic news! Thank you for all you do!

Thank you for all of your efforts!

A couple weeks ago, we got a call from a family who had neighbors that moved away and left their cats behind. One of our fosters knew the lady calling and so she stepped in and went to get the cats. They were all absolutely gorgeous, but 3 of them were very pregnant, one of them we were not sure if she was pregnant and the male was still intact. We lucked out and got 2 spots at PHP and had the male neutered and the female that didn’t appear preganat spayed. We lucked out again with a transport in place to Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor for 2 dogs and they agreed to take the two cats that we just had altered. 2 of the other 3 have had their kittens, the other is close behind with her delivery. We laugh that this foster has a cat maternity ward going on… but then to make matters even more complicated, a family called with kittens found in a vehicle where the window was left down. 5 kittens with their eyes starting to open. This same foster grabbed the kittens and set the trap, 2 days later she caught momma in the trap and she’s being reunited with her babies… in the maternity ward, hopefully it will work… but the foster is going slow with reintroducing them to her.
